Gender Confusion

Potty-training Dutch Baby is going better than I anticipated but all this anal attention has definitely led to some funny situations. Bathtime this morning was question after question from her brother about why don't girls have weinies and how can they go potty without one? This is very perplexing to a 4-year-old boy.

During a walk around the neighborhood I allowed young Padawan to pee on a tree after glancing around to make sure no one was driving past at that moment. Little boys have the most curious habit of going behind the tree, even the scrawny ones with the stick trunks (which is the only kind of tree in Maricopa), and facing you- believing that this is the most inconspicuous way to go about their business. Because they are BEHIND the tree. Whatever, his brother did it too when he was little, I'm used to it, but what got me today was when Dutch Baby demanded that she also get to pee on the same tree. I was actually going to acquiesce to her request until I realized she wanted to stand and pee like her brother did. Apparently I should have included Dutch Baby more in the previous bathtime discussion. Days like these I think it would be easier to have only boys or girls.

Rafe is almost 5, the discussions can start being more in depth now. :-)

If Blake had been around, he could have shown you the "European cradle" method. It is not exactly allowing her to stand up to pee, but it gets the job done.

We've had the very same bathtime discussion at our house. Boys will just take any old explanation and run with it. Girls want your explanation to be in depth and accurate. Yesterday, I explained to a 4 year old exactly what tampons are for and how we use them. Nice, hu?
