'Something Amazing' and 10-Foot Poles

It was my sweet mom's birthday yesterday. For her special day she got a husband recovering from back surgery who has been in and out of hospitals for a month, five children that all live over 300 miles away, an elderly and usually ornery father who took her out to dinner (and then had her pay!), and a long sight-seeing journey around the yard on the riding lawn-mower. I'm betting she didn't ask for any of those things and would have rather spent the day doing other things; certainly this hard-working, strong, doting Grandma deserved better!

As a feeble attempt to make up for not spoiling my angel mom more on her birthday, I feel the need to broadcast to Cybersphere what makes her so fantastically special:

*It was through her suggestion to do "something amazing" with my college-years that led me to apply for and attend BYU-Hawaii.

*Blake can thank Mom for getting the two of us back together after a nasty high school break-up. (Let's just say I was going through a phase.) She told me Blake would "never touch me again with a ten-foot pole." Which made me cry for hours and realize I wanted him to touch me again without a pole.

*More recently, despite undergoing a serious, hulking challenge that would wither the hardiest of spirits, my mother pushed through the darkest of days with remarkable stamina, perseverance, and faith. Although the challenge will always loom before her, I'm grateful for her example of enduring to the end and relying on the Savior.

Thank you for all of this and so much more, Mom, and we'll do better by you next year, we promise!

Good, good Mom. I am interested in hearing more about this "phase". I totally missed it.

Jazzman is traveling with his job and so his witty sarcasm is on hold for another week or so. But Don't worry, he won't hold back once he gets to his computer.

Gee I don't feel worthy of any of those lofty comments but thank you anyway. I loved seeing Cashie in that picture, that was taken just a month or less before he was put down. Thank you my darling daughter, what a blessing you are in my life. Ma
