Way Better Than The Hoff: It's Wendy!

In Maui in 1995 I saw David Hasselhoff cavorting in the waves with a buxom blonde; my first celebrity sighting that was really cool. Don't scoff, this was right in the midst of Baywatch hype and at the time America believed he had talent. Blake was serving an LDS mission in Holland and he was even bigger stuff there. Dutch people adore the Hoff.

In the Salt Lake City airport I once saw Wilford Brimley getting off a plane. Alone and ignored, it was kind of sad. Poor guy has a decent portfolio (where would Metamucil be without him?) and should have at least been getting a hounding from a TMZ guy.

In another airport in Missouri I saw Mike Tyson running down a corridor with a full posse of security jogging around him. Well, I kind of just saw his shoulder, but the friend I was with was able to identify him, so I'll count it as a sighting.

In Rexburg over the summer I saw another celebrity at the Whoopee Days parade. Wendy. It may not have been the real Wendy Thomas (her hair looked fake) but I still lept at the opportunity to get a picture taken with her. This woman has had a real impact on me. I dedicated over four years of my young adult life serving the good citizens of Rexburg hamburgers in the manner her father taught me in the training videos.
There's not a person anywhere that doesn't recognize this girl, so I believe this makes Wendy the most famous celebrity I have ever encountered.I was beaming the rest of the parade; glad that Blake, who I'm also a big fan of, was there to share the moment with me.
.
I would love to hear your celebrity sightings: any encounters to brag about?

My step-mom is good friends with Rick Schroder's wife and I've met him once! His wife and kids used to go to church with my step-mom in Grand Junction!

Wow Jenna, I am one of Wendy's biggest fans. I was in a photo shoot with the Utah Jazz's Mark Eaton in about 1986. David and I saw Robert Redford at Sundance. He looked so old in person!

I saw the King of Malaysia. He was staying in the same hotel. I waited in the lobby to see him walk from the elevator to his car. His wife walked a few paced behind him. They had one elevator cordoned off for his exclusive use, with a red carpet.

Does Sylvester Stallone's house in Acapulco count???

Kelly Nixon (only known if you watch the Food Network), Elizabeth Smart, and most TV anchorwomen shop at Banana Republic when I am there.

I did not give 4 years of my life to any of them, so it is not quite the same.

Ben has seen Sione (local celeb from Biggest Loser) at Priesthood session of conference. He also ran into Felicity Huffman of Desperate Housewives at the airport a few years ago. Claims to have seen Alice Cooper at AZ Mills Mall when I was with him, but I think this is iffy. My most memorable is meeting Clyde Drexler...my all time fav. Portland Trail Blazer!

Any Portland Trail Blazer, former or current, is not allowed on this site....

Jazzy, who are you to decide what's allowed on my blog?

Myabe you shouldn't be allowed.

You forgot our encounter with Phil Mickelson at the Las Vegas Open - we were so close he could have signed my left man-boob had I had a pen.

Two years ago when our kids weren't in school, Wade worked for US Airways and we could take off anytime we wanted. On a short flight to Tuscon (who flies to Tuscon when you live in Phoenix-we did), anyway the stewardess said, "Jude Law is at the front of the plane." Wade and I said,"Who?" I guess I don't keep up with the "Sexiest Men in America"-I have my own!

I meant to say that we waited at the gate until we saw him come off. We had to guess at who we were looking for, but later we looked him up on the internet and we had guessed right. Boy-that was worth the wait...

I met Billy Bob Thornton in Flagstaff, he was on his way to Vegas to marry Angelina Jolie. I guess he doesn't like to fly. I got his autograph, but that was back in the day when cell phones were too pricey for everyone to have and I'm sure they didn't have camera's and they weighed about 20 lbs. I also saw Tim McGraw in a Tucson mall with his girlfriend, again, pre cell phone days....man I am really dating myself aren't I... what did we ever do without cell phones?

Most of my celebrity sightings involve world-class athletes who are now my friends. I did see the Rock once, he smiled at me and was very relieved when I didn't freak out and draw attention to him.
Oh, and once someone asked me for my autograph at an airport. I'm not sure who they thought I was though.

We followed Larry King around the mall and I kept yelling, "Larry!" but he just walked faster.

Does Donny & Marie Osmond count? Jeff Hornacek from the Utah Jazz walked by Brad & I twice at a Home Depot. Taller than you'd think.

Heather Locklear, Richie Sambora, Mel Gibson (before all the bad media), Donny Osmond (totally counts), been inside Marie Osmonds house (totally counts), Katherine Heigle was in my ward, Tal Bachman (one hit wonder) was in my ward, friends with Whit Hertford (annoying kid from Jurasic Park), and too many live in my general area of CA to even count. This makes me sooo cool... I know.

Wow Tara, apparently living in CA makes it easier to see celebrities vs. living in, say, southeast Idaho.

Wendy also makes great chili.

OK, I saw Ty Pennington at the Manchester, NH airport in 1997. He was yaking with some guy and I wanted to run over and say HI, love your show AND your hair! but being the fat mini-van mom that I am, I held myself back.

My husband's sister is the personal nanny/assistant to Amanda Peet. I have never met her, but my SIL has babysat for Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, and now Amanda Peet. Do I win something? I can even send a video from Jimmy Kimmel where Amanda Peet gushes about her nanny to prove it! I win! I win!
