Priorities

This morning I made me a nice little to-do-list, knowing I was going to be home all day, anticipating how great my house would look after having all day to work on it. As for the list: Vacuum the living room CHECK
Vacuum couches CHECK
Laundry CHECK

at that point I lost the list...and found it on the kitchen table, colored on by Rafe's new crayons and then drenched in chocolate milk. So much for the list.

With two kids not yet in school to-do lists are not much more than vague ambitions: like when you say to yourself, "One day I will write a novel," or "I hope to be independently wealthy at age 40." One day I will organize the pantry. I hope to see the floor of the master closet again.

For now the to-do-list is just scribbles and spilled milk, but I figured out that in only 3 1/2 years all of my children will be in school! Then the day's to-do lists may make a comeback.

Or I may have to modify my expectation of the list altogether. For instance today it should have read:

1. Get dressed.

2. Meet Padawan's new playdate. His name was "Crack" the Beetle. He was an intriguing companion, but pretty quiet. Rafe asked him all about his family, in a crooning, loving voice, where he lived, and if he could swim, but he must not have felt like opening up quite yet. Although he survived his photo shoot he was looking a little beat up at the end. Padawan told him "I will love you forever!" but I don't think he'll come back for another playdate.

3. Enjoy the sunshine. .

4. Take a nap. After Dutch baby went down for a nap, young Padawan laid next to me on the couch and we both fell asleep. That's something I can't do when he's in school: so that's probably the most rewarding thing I could have done with my day.

I think I like your second list better. It's all about prioritizing! Who cares about the floors or the laundry? But you sound as if there won't be another little Scoresby joining the clan. I don't believe it for a minute! kellil

Hey there. I just found your blog from Sara's and thought I'd pop in and say hi. Love your blog. And your kids are adorable. I love this list... that's how I think all us moms' lists should be;)

Great pictures Jenna.

Is it just me or does "Crack" the Beetle sound like the name of a character that Snoop Dog or Ice Cube would play in a movie?

I forgot to add, do your kids ever wear clothes? hehe just kidding.

I just wanted to say I am REALLY REALLY looking forward to being in 90 degree weather next week and it snowed yesterday and it is 34 degrees with an inch of snow on the ground. It's freakin' May!

You know, an index finger is much more dependable as an imaginary friend. But stay away from Skotee, he's still with me.
