The Wheels on the Bus...
Smalls had his second pine wood derby for cub scouts this week. So what do you do when you only have two days until weigh-in and you haven't started making your pine wood derby car and your only tool for shaping your masterpiece is a Dremmel? You take the block of wood and paint it yellow and make it a bus. That's what we did. It actually turned out pretty cool. Here are some pictures.

I don't think anyone there had ever seen a pine wood derby bus before, but people seemed to like it. It definitely wasn't like the other race cars. The bus didn't perform well the first two or three races. It would almost come to a complete stop halfway down the track as it didn't run straight and kept rubbing against the raised portion of the track. Luckily we procured some real graphite powder (Thanks Terry! I had some teflon lubricant that did squat) and finally figured out that one of the pre-cut slots that the wheel nails fit into was not square, which caused the car to turn and rub against the track. After that the bus was a great competitor, finishing second or first the rest of the evening. The bus didn't take the top prize, but was awarded the most original design. Everyone had a good time.

Very Cool! I am impressed. Doing a project at the 11th hour must run in the Scoresby family. But hey it turned out great! I cant wait to see it in a few weeks Con!
That is the COOLEST bus I've ever seen. I love it! And obviously Grant was excited given his love of buses.
Very creative idea! I love the bus! Boy, I have to admit, I am sort of glad my pinewood derby days are over!! :)
Awesome Con & Blake. Look at that detail!
Very cool. It's always so nice to see the pinewood derby come...and go. kelli
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! There is one flaw though, buses have two emergency exits on the roof...but no one besides me would know that.
That is great!
With four boys in a row, pinewood derby time was a pain. I'm afraid to say that one of our creations was the exact same thing. We got tired of the the INEL engineer sons who always won because their dads made the entire project. You'll remember this in the true spirit intended. Way to go.
