I was really disappointed yesterday by the media's lack of acknowledgement about 9/11. I turned on the morning news to see broadcasted ceremonies, news of where our country is concerning the fight against future 9/11s, stories of survivors and how their lives have changed. Instead I got cooking on the Plaza with mint leaves. Sure, they broke away for a brief view of a ceremony at Ground Zero, but that was all they offered. Why weren't flags at half-staff?
I'm sure no one will ever forget what they were doing on September 11, 2001. I was at home in Provo, Utah, waiting for my brother-in-law to bring his kids over since his wife had just had surgery the day before. I turned on the TV while I waited, and that was immediately after the first plane hit the first tower. I told Blake to get up and get in here. Dan Rather didn't know what was going on and said it must have been a pilot's error or something. As he continued to talk, something flew into view, hitting the other tower. Dan didn't see from his viewpoint that it was another plane. I remember him saying the first plane's fuselage must have exploded, causing the second explosion. At that point he didn't realize it was a second plane.
As the images of the burning continued, Blake took the day off, and my kids and neice and nephew ran around. I remember looking at them (Conner was three, Claire 1) and realizing their world had changed forever and they didn't know it. It's still affecting their life as the war continues and other threats of war loom before us. Conner remembers watching with us. It's his first memory.
I know someone who died working that morning at the Pentagon, leaving a young wife and a grieving family in Sugar City, Idaho. We were all personally affected by the events of that day. It's too bad the news didn't find it worthy of air-time.
What were you doing on September 11? If we can't remember on the boob tube we can at least remember on the blogosphere.

If they were really to acknowledge 9/11 right now, then they would also be acknowledging the need we have to fight terrorism, and that wouldn't be good for Obama. Now would the media ever do something like that???
My alarm went off to the radio and instead of music it was someone screaming, "America is under attack!" Not a very pleasant wake-up call. I was living in Autumn Winds apartments at the time.
There will be plenty more 9/11s if McCain gets into office...
Don't worry everyone...Jeff's (jazzman) delusional. He thinks he invented aluminum foil.
Jenna I fully remember that day and continue to feel the effects of it. McKenna too remembers seeing it on TV at our company Glass Doctor in SLC, UT. We including our patrons and employees piled in the waiting room watching it all unfold. It was terrible! My heart goes out to all affected personally to 9/11 and my gratitude goes out to all of those men & women serving & protecting our country! Their families too! My sister was in the Army deployed overseas and nearly escaped death that next day when a missle locked on to their helicopter! You can read all about it on her blog.
I can tell you that Maricopa Unified School District flew their flags at half staff and each school had special ceremonies that day for 9/11. GO MUSD!!! GO USA & NEVER NEVER FORGET 9/11
I was wondering where the coverage was as well! My memories brought me back to that morning. My mom called us, we were living in CA and it was early morning. We were headed to the t.v. when she cried,"The second tower's been hit!" What a tragedy!
I agree with the first comment of Family Family Family. I also think that Jeff is on crack because Obama wants to cut military and defense spending, which happened pre-9/11 and look what happened! I was in my Visual Basic programming class on Ricks College when our teacher told us what was going on and school was cancelled for the rest of the day. I then went to my apartment and watched the tube all day.
Blake, you need to intruduce jazzman to the Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies.
You have got to read Leslie's sister's blog. She was overseas at the time what an amazing story. I'm hurt that people seem to have swept it under the rug. We are still fighting, there are still soldiers overseas, there are still terrorists, yet 9/11 just came and went as if it were another day. What a shame.
I was pregnant with Brennan and washing dishes when Brad called me to turn on the tv. I cried all day and was scared to bring an innocent baby into the world. I knew the wife of the guy that died in the pentagon from Sugar City. Very sad.....
