Backyard Bust

Since our Dutch Baby had never had a birthday party I decided to throw her a party. Since young Padawan had never had a party, due to his crappiest birthdate of December 27, I decided I couldn't throw Dutch Baby one before Padawan got one, so he got a "half-birthday party" combined with his sister. Since I hadn't thrown a party since for over three years, I had forgotten how much I hate throwing parties.I blame Anna for concocting the whole scheme. She introduced me to Bakerella while we were surfing together via webcam. She convinced me to make these. So I had to have a party with which to display them. Bakerella's are cuter. She probaby didn't go to the dollar store for the freaky conjoined teddy graham cracker twins. Bakerella probably wouldn't go to the dollar store for water guns either, but I did. All ten of them didn't work. Shown here are the ten Blake ran and got from WalMart when we saw that the dollar store ones were failures. Only five of the WalMart ones shot water. Here the partygoers are shooting at a target I wrote on the wall as a last-minute game idea. I was so obsessed about the cupcakes I forgot about things like what we were actually going to DO at the party.

But the cupcakes did generate excitement so it was worth the trouble, right?
However, some of the kids didn't care for the carefully placed bear toppings on fruit roll-up towels.

Note to self: next time use plain cupcakes, name-brand Teddy Grahams, and pre-test the waterguns. Or I should say, note to others. I think my party throwing days are behind me while I take a few years off to recover from this one.

*Please do not think I regret the whole thing. The kids were all very good. If the noise level is a reliable indicator of fun-ness, than the event was a success.

I'm so glad you made fun of the teddy grahams. I saw the picture before you explained them and I was confused as to why they looked like really chubby teddy grahams. But despite their conjoined condition, they are still adorable cupcakes.

My kids thought it was the greatest party ever. Lucky for us parents, kids don't always have the highest expectations.

I don't envy you on this one. Good news is, it's over with and you can take a few years off, right?

Cute cupcakes. I would have attended for that alone!

kid parties are a 3 ring circus. And sorry, Bakerella outshined you in the cupcake department...but do kids really care? *they were still cute though*

A good rule of thumb I heard once about kid parties (which is hard to do when you combine parties) is to only invite as many kids as the age of the birthday kid. Then times that number by 2 for the length of time you can expect them to pay attention to any one activity.

Jenna, Cara Mia and Elijah had a ball. She kept saying we got to shoot guns, but not the real one's mom. So I wouldn't worry. Next time, I promise to not go out of town and I'll help you. I love parties!!!

Back in my day, we used to write our names on the wall with something else -sans water guns. That's the first thought I had when I sawa bunch of young boys lined up on the wall.
