I See Dead People

It rained. Big event in Arizona. BIG! Kids come out, camera comes out. Finally, we can play outside.

I had a heart skipper when I glanced through the pictures I took after everyone came in to dry off. The lights! What were they? Orbs. Paranormal orbs. Must be dead people.

I haven't seen the 1999 M. Night Shyamalan movie, The Sixth Sense, for years, and yet it has remained steadfastly near the top of my brainfile with the highlighted 'Scary' label. For months I couldn't get up to go the bathroom because I was sure some kid with a dangling cerebrum would slip past the corner and tell me to come on and look at where his dad keeps his gun. I would just have to hold it until morning. Or make Blake come with me.

In the movie Sixth Sense the boy, Cole, is haunted by ghosts that need his help. In one scene his mother looks at pictures of her son and in every picture is the same lighty orby thing that showed up in my rain pictures. Ghosts. Actually in my picture it's light reflecting off the raindrops, but the fact that I first assigned them as preternatural substantiates my conviction that I should avoid freaky movies completely. And freaky trailers on TV. Like the one from last year with all the hands....the skin on the back of my neck is standing up just thinking about that. And you know what Cole Sear says about the prickly hairs on your arm standing up: "That's them, when they're mad."

(Shiver.) With Halloween a month away it's not too early to reflect on freaky movie moments. What scene in what movie is first in your 'Scary' brainfile?

I got really freaked out when the mob came to get the Beast in "Beauty and the Beast", and it was just too much for me when the Lion King got chased down by his brother. I swore off anything even REMOTELY scary at that point in my life.

I can't believe you haven't seen the Sixth Sense! It's not THAT scary.

I would have to say the movie, Scream all around freaked me out...

No, Barb, silly one, if you read it again I said that I haven't seen it in years, but I still get scared about it. It is too scary.

How would I know about the orbs if I haven't seen it?

Holy cloudburst, batman! I avoid all scary movies myself. I even get upset when there is any kind of contention, ala the Vontrap butler Nazi snitching on my favorite family. I almost cannot bear it.

I have no idea what movie it was because I was only about 7 when I saw it but it was so creepy that I spent the night lying across the foot of my parents bed hanging on to my mom's ankles and to this day I have to run up the stairs if it's dark. (even though that means I leave my kids downstairs in their bedrooms.) I hate scary movies!

I'm with everyone else-no scary movies for me. I have too active of imagination! I did't like the part of "Deceived" when the husband is watching the wife from the closet. I hate it when they make the husband the bad guy.

Two words...'The Ring.'

I think I agree with Jeff (isn't he Jazzman??) if it's the Ring I'm thinking of. Isn't that the movie where the demon girl comes out of the tv? Way SCARIER than the Sixth Sense, WAY!!!

Came out last year and I finally got around to seeing it. Cloverfield! It's so realistic that it freaks you out. I bit off all my fingernails watching it!

Silence of the Lambs. I saw it in the theatre and was gripping the arm rest most of the movie.

Yep, Silence of the Lambs was yucky. Wish I never saw that one. The Sixth Sense is a great movie! It never frieked me out. I could watch it again and have a good time. My earliest scary show was the Amityville Horror because it was based on an actual true story! Those are the ones that friek me out--when it can really happen. I can't believe my Mom didn't know I was watching it at the age of 9 on the couch, home sick from school. The other worst one was a gory one with a pitchfork. I don't need to explain that one. I hate those types of movies! Just sick. And I hate when they show previews of scary movies on tv when the kids are watching. They friek me out.
