sneaking in a brag

I had something happen this week totally worth bragging about. But I've resisted doing it. It's just not in me to be a braggerhead. I so want to this time because it's super good. So I've gone back and forth in my head: to brag or not to brag. Luckily, a possible solution came from the second season of 30 Rock, which I was watching with Blake during our nightly unwinding ritual. It's too funny, that show! At the end of each show my thighs are sore from the laugh-slapping.

Anyway, Kenneth, who plays a page in the show, is struggling with the same dilemma as Yours Truly Humble. Here is advice presented by his co-worker actress, the beautiful Jenna (go figure, right?)

Kenneth: The personal essay is way harder than I thought, cause it's not in my nature to brag on myself.

Jenna: Not even a back door brag?

Kenneth: What's a back door brag?

Jenna: Backdoor bragging is sneaking something wonderful about yourself in everyday conversation. Like when I tell people it's hard for me to watch American Idol cause I have perfect pitch.

*This comes up again later in the same episode with the witty Liz Lemon*

Jenna: People always underestimate my instincts because of my good looks.

Liz: This is no time for back door bragging!

It hit me. This could be the solution I've been looking for. Maybe I could possibly allow a little back door brag on the blog. First I guess I could practice with imaginary conversations with friends. Something like this maybe:

Imaginary friend: Did you get your electricity bill? It was way high.

Me (also Jenna): Seriously! But paying bills is easier lately because I'm so amazing at coupon shopping.

Oh that wasn't the best. But it was my first try. And, anyway, I guess I could have just posted a captionless picture of my awesome brag and avoided this whole essay on the subject. But that would have been a shame because I'm such a great writer.

(Hey, I did it!)

See why I had to brag? I spent just under $22 on 63 name-brand items and saved $109! That makes each item just under 35 cents. This was my best haul ever. It took me 2 hours to prepare for this shopping trip, but it was totally worth it. That's like $50 an hour I paid myself. Couponsense, I adore you for teaching me the tricks necessary to be the Rock Star of Grocery Shopping that I've become.

(Was that last one a bit much?)

Don't forget to enter for a chance to win your $100 gift card. For you, that would be close to $500 worth of groceries!

Why is your camera so foggy? You should find a coupon for that!

Ha ha! I love 30 Rock. Isn't that what blogs are for...professional back door bragging?

Way to go on the savings. I hate coupon shopping for many reasons.
