halloween is scarrrrry

The scariest part of Halloween is reaching in to disembowel a pumpkin and pulling out its guts.

Making mummy costumes is scary. I burned all ten fingers with hot glue and blistered two. Then comes the scary part of presenting a costume to a kid after working on it for five hours because there's always the risk of rejection. Luckily both mummy costumes were well-received, although Younger Mummy did spew a few of his wrappings when face-paint was mentioned.

Wandering around Savers looking for Cleopatra ensemble was frightening for two reasons: 1) There's a whole lot to sift through, making it extremely time-consuming for possibly little result (but I totally scored!) and 2) There's always the fear that the Savers smell, which is also a D.I. smell, for those of you who haven't Saver-ed, will never wash off your hands. Ooooh chills.

But then it all comes together. It always does.
And it's time for a nice picture.

Wait! Let's see that again...what is that??

Shiver-y.

p.s. For all of you following the elections tonight, you might appreciate what I was for Halloween, but only a handful of people at Trunk-or-Treat figured it out. I wore a witch hat and cape and a shirt that read, "I'm Not a Witch." Any guesses?

I'm not politically minded enough to get your costume, so hopefully I'm not the only one dumb enough not to and you'll explain it to me.

The kids looks awesome. The mummy costumes look amazing!!!

I like that you called the guts of the pumpkin 'entrails'. Gross. Entrails is just a gross word.

You did a great job. Good mom.

she lost the election....would have thought the spells she worked on last night would have helped...I guess dabbling in it isn't the same as becoming a true witch.

I love that you wore that costume.

Great job on the kids' costumes. They are amazing. I wanted to be as cool as you and make really great costumes. Maybe someday...

Freaky, I didn't even notice your neighbor in the background in the first picture! I love those kids.

For anyone who cares: I was dressed up at Christine O'Donnell, a tea party candidate in Delaware who was accused of "dabbling in witchcraft." Instead of ignoring the attack she made an ad which began, "I'm not a witch." This opened her up to even more ridicule and cost her the campaign.

So Yeah. I'm kinda a dork.

AWESOME costumes. Dude. I had the hardest time with Evan's mummy costume. Should have called you. I tried to sew it. Why didn't I think of a hot glue gun???
