Since I fly so rarely, when I do get the opportunity, I'm obsessed with the view out the window. I'm amazed by the look of mountains from thousands of feet up, the canyons looking like stitches trying to heal torn
landscapes. How often do you get to look down to see clouds?
So when I friend Alisha asked me if I wanted to come to Virginia to help her take care of twin niece and nephew for a few days, I said sure! Can I get a window seat? No problem there; I was floored to learn that wanting aisle seats is more normal than wanting window seats. What's wrong with everyone?
It was the middle of March, and my kids were on Spring Break. I ditched them. I flew on an airplane and read People magazine. I looked out the window so much my neck hurt. It was wonderful.
Since the main objective of the trip was taking care of busy four-year-olds, I wasn't granted full access to everything D.C. has to offer a tourist. But Alisha was kind and brave enough to take me on a mini-field trip in D.C. with two preschoolers in tow, just so I could have a little taste of the Capitol.
So here is me tasting the Capitol. It's so great to say I Was There.

Thank you, curly-haired babies, for humoring me with a couple hours at the Air and Space Museum as well. Thank you, cherry trees, for blossoming early so I can enjoy your splendor. And most of all, muchas gracias love for my friend Alisha for inviting me to come help her, and to her sister and brother-in-law for flying me out. I will always treasure the experience.
