On my birthday today I'm treating myself to a trip down birthday lane. I'm going back through my journals, hashtag birthdays. There were more than I thought, but the years that are skipped are years that I didn't happen to journal around my birthday time. This little liferoad trip was a fun present to myself!
1983 (8th birthday): On my birthday I got a journal. And "On the banks of Plum Creek." I got a Barbie and a Western Ken. I got a Mickey Mouse purse that I keep them in. And a bunny that my little brother won't let me play with it. I got a thing that said, "I'm a child of God." Plus a necklace of the Idaho State...This morning I woke up so exsided, because of my birthday. I wanted to be the best girl around the world...I sat around waiting for someone to wake up and wish me Happy Birthday.
1984 (9th) I got glasses. There red and fit just right. Mr. Larsen will ask me when I have my glasses he'll say "Guess what all trucks have?" Then he'll rub his fingers on the lenses and say, "Windshield wipers."
1985. (10th). ...I got a blue pony that has rainbow-colored hair. It's name is "Moonstone" but I call it Moonlight.
1986 (11th) ...I went to Idaho Falls to pick me out a present...and I found a pair of skates with ball bearings! They are red with red laces.
1988 (13th) ...When I got off the bus some girls cornered me in the hall. I figured they were decorating my locker...finally I went to my locker. There was paper and balloons with my friends' messages written all the way across it. There were balloons inside it....I got sung to in art. At 6:30...we headed into town for my roller skating party.
1990 (15th) I went to a fireside with Jennica and Sharlie. Jennica is giving me a present tomorrow. I told her who I had a crush on. BIG MISTAKE.
1991(16th) First date. Prom date. The dance had a Hollywood theme. Cardboard film reels hanging all over. Pretty strange. If dating is like this, keep me 15 forever.
1992 (17th) I am now the big one seven and I spent my birthday with a guy (I will stop there. Blake isn't fond of my boyfriend stories).
1993 (18th) No record made this year but this was a fun birthday that I remember. Blake and I bought lottery tickets because we could and an issue of Weekly World News (our favorite) and read it together over a nice Arctic Circle meal.
1994 (19th) Oh yeah I'm 19 now. My birthday coincided with Women's Week, a cheesy Ricks College event(s) where mothers come to do activities with their collegiate offspring and basically infest the city of Rexburg.
1995 (20th) Back at the Grease Pit (Wendy's.) Blake sent me a Hard Rock Amsterdam shirt for my birthday. Yep LOVE HIM. I didn't expect anything.
1996 (21st) My birthday was Monday and Jeni's was Wed and so on Tuesday, which was Kuhio Day and therefore no school, us birthday chicas went to Ross and bought birthday dresses. Then Leigh and Rachel picked us up in Leigh's jeep with the top down and we cruised to Sand Island where Rachel's friends work at a sports place and we spent the afternoon on brand new wave runners!
1998 (23rd) I got the day off from my practicuum and slept in. Blake had day off too.. We went to our dr. appt and heard the baby's heartbeat again...Mom bought me maternity clothes.
-Big Life Gap here? What happened? I'm either missing a journal or two or I was so busy creating, birthing, and sustaining children that I didn't have any birthdays during this decade.
2008 (33rd) Big group of friends, games, and lunch at Robyn Barker's...Sara Murdock brought me a Dr. Pepper. That's a great birthday present!...UPS guy brought two full boxes of scrapbook stuff from my SIL Tara. I felt spoiled as the phone rang all day, all my brothers called...Definitely a good day. See Blog Post.
2009 (34th) I went shopping and got some capris for the summer. I dread the day capris go out of style...Rafe was so passionate about the candles this year and he "helped" me make the cake... Skipped mutual to spend time with my family and my couch.
2011 (36th) See this Blog Post
2013 (38th) Spent time collecting birthday memories into one blog post while my almost four-month-old sleeps in her cribby and the other babies are at school. It was fun looking to see what I had recorded. I am grateful that I have always been a relatively good journal keeper. I think I remember things better, because I live them twice- once for reals, and once in the retelling. I think I'm paraphrasing a similar quote about that I heard somewhere. There's little time to celebrate 38 today so I will continue doing laundry as per Monday's usual. And I'm totally ok with that. That's the glory of being 38. You don't need a roller-skating party to make it a good day.
But it would be fun to be on a jet-ski in Hawaii. Just sayin'.

This is awesome!!! You've always been adorable.
So who was the Madison bobcat you had a crush on when you were 15?
Nice job on the journal keeping. I was an avid journal writer until I got married. :(
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! What a great idea! Your family is amazing!
Mrs. Olsen: I didn't read this too closely but there were two bobcats crushes during this time: so It was either B Daniels or J. Gordon! Ha ha. I sped through crushes as fast as Rexburg changes weather :)
