Blake and I laugh at certain aspects of living in the desert. Specifically the reaction to RAIN. Weathermen here really have a boring job (excepting monsoon season of course, which peaks late June/early July) and usually the 7-day forecast has seven little suns all the way across the screen, with no clouds, and the hi's and lo's are about the same numbers. The best is during the heat of the summer when the high temp of 105 has a giant "cooler" written underneath it. Needless to say our unusual weather pattern of late, record high temps followed by a thunderstorm, has caused a frenzy here in AZ. Yesterday saw an entire day of downpour. Local meteorologists are thrilled to have something to do. Anchors are taping outside under umbrellas. The first 10 minutes of the news last night was weather related: everything from soggy graduation ceremonies held outside to listings of washed-out roads. They were even showing pictures that people had sent in of the view of raindrops from their front porches. After that, it was time for the weather segment. It must have been a huge deal, because American Idol wasn't mentioned once during the entire broadcast.
The kids and I enjoyed the rain and spent a considerable amount of time sitting on our front porch. I took pictures too but I will just post them on my blog instead of sending them to Fox 10.
Our yard still isn't done, and so the water found a resting place in our trenches.

Where does the rain go? Holland ponders as she looks out the window at all the wet stuff she's rarely seen in her life. Rafe just likes catching drops on his tounge.
This last picture is the grassy area adjacent to our nieghborhood, but today it's a beautiful lake instead.

Kaylee and Cade enjoyed playing outside and getting totally wet. Any chance they get they ask for their coats...all of them. Kaylee goes outside wearing two coats.
When Kaylee hears thunder she turns to me with wide eyes and says "monster!"
Sorry about your trenches (David feels your pain!). But wasn't it just the best day ever?
Isn't great! Jacob was so excited to see rain, he ran from window to window watching it from inside. I hope it lasts for a while. Love the shots of Rafe and Holland enjoying as well.
This post totally brings back memories of when we were at your house in Vegas, and it started to rain. It rained and rained and rained, and I thought I might just be stranded at your house. (there's no place I'd rather be stranded) Fun memories. Enjoy your reprieve from the heat. Just think, when the heat kicks up again, it will be like a giant steamy sauna! Gotta love that! kelli
