A boy with good skills

Stunning us all, our young Padawan recently put down his Game Cube Controller and picked up a crayon. After over a year of continuous play, an unverified Guiness record perhaps, he must have seen the new box of 156 Crayolas out of the corner of his eye. He turned off the Game Cube, also surprising us, since we didn't know he knew how to do that either. His legs had become muscularly weak, but those hands were surprisingly strong- all the destroying of Lego Darth Vaders having toned and strengthened them, and he used them to pull himself up onto a chair. I kept doing a double-take at the kitchen table, wondering what neighbor kid was over, unused to seeing him sitting there. We quickly saw that he's a good colorer, very dexterous, also probably a result of chronic electronics.

We're not sure what caused him to finally put down the controller and resume this new obsession. It subtly reminds of Grandpa Shirley's karate stint. Perhaps a recessive gene? Whatever the reason, it's good to see Rafe venturing out of the living room.

Well in the grand tradition of our kids being on opposite schedules - Grant has recently put down the crayons for a Wii-mote to play Tennis.

Great pictures. I love the perspectives they show of Rafe and the coloring pages.

I wonder what it would be like to have a game system again. I'll probably never know, right honey?

HA HA HA HA! If he's like Grandpa Shirley, he'll lose interest in about a week and never pick up a crayon again.

Good thing you took a picture, because surely the pull of video games will have him back to his old ways very soon! That's when we 'lose the remote' for a while. kelli
