Shortly after posting my intrigue over The Host, I read another 100 pages or so and completely lost interest altogether. Flatlined. I even had to return my book to April before leaving town and didn't regret it.
All Twilight readers, save time: Just imagine Edward playing football instead of baseball, in an underground cave to impress Bella, starring this time as an alien, and Jacob the Wereworf as a regular human. Now you can skip it and read something substantial. I highly recommend The Color of Water by James McBride, which I am currently reading. No aliens, no teen stalker vampires, just a well-written, real-life, coming-of-age novel that has spent a lot of time with me recently. Just the two of us in Grandma's hammock. It's been a great vacation.

I just can't abandon a book after I start it. Even if it is dumb. The only two books I remember putting down were 'Master and Commander' and 'Les Miserable', but only because I was totally incapable of understanding them, and they made me feel really stupid. I'll try 'The Color of Water' though, as long as the words aren't too big! kelli
Jenna, you are such a book snob.
what? You just stopped reading it? unbelieveable.
Hi Jenna.
Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to your comment...I've been a terrible blogger and we've been gone alot lately. But seriously, don't you hate it when you leave someone a comment for the first time, and they never even reply!? I do.
Anyways, April was just telling me how much you like to read! Ironic that your most recent post was related. Sorry you didn't like that book.
I'll miss Claire and Rafe while you guys are gone! Say hi to them for me and have fun in cooler weather!
P.S. Love that picture of Holland to the left! So cute!
Blah, blah, blah. You ARE a book snob! I still love you, even if we don't share our love for Stephenie's men. Good thing you can tell me all the smart books to read (I hope you can tell I'm mostly kidding.)
Jenna - I'm not here to tell you anything about books..since I don't read any. :o)
What book is Claire reading McKenna wanted to know so maybe they can read the same book and then discuss it. Any help I can give my kids to embrace and love reading (unlike me) I'll gladly do.
WE MISS YOU ALL!!! :o)
All I can say is YEA!!!! (Not a big fan of Stephanie Meyers)
So I've been a major slacker on the blog side of things lately....I haven't looked at anyone's blog or updated my own in over a month so I had no idea about your book review!
You would think that me being a fan of the Twilight Saga that I would automatically be a fan of The Host...yeah...not so much. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. I did read the entire book in about 5 days (fast for me considering my life), but it took about 100 pages for me to really understand what was going on and to stick to reading it. I thought it was too slow moving at the beginning. Then when it was just starting to get good, it got boring with all of the cave talk...then it started getting good again and then it was over. It was like SM realized how long the book had gotten and had to cram in the ending when part of the middle could have been taken out. It's not a re-readable book by any means, but I did like it in the end and there was one character that I really liked (Ian). All of this book stuff is totally new to me...seriously. I have NEVER read for enjoyment until I got talked into reading Twilight. Now I read all the time...and not just Stephenie Meyer's books. ;)
Since we finished The Host, we are headed to the library today, and I will see if they have The Color of Water. Can't wait.
