Yes yes I do realize Pierce Brosnan should never EVER be allowed to hold a microphone, much less use it- an act that gives new meaning to the name Pierce altogether. It really is fitting that he sings "S.O.S." Save us all! And I also realize wardrobe made a huge mistake putting overalls on Meryl Streep. I'm very aware these two things alone were enough to plunge the overall production down to what one critic labeled one of the worst movies of 2008. But even yet. We just can't stop watching that scene. We dig the dancing queens.
All four kids: all fans. At 10 1/2 Smalls is not oblivious to the joys of seeing a cute girl on screen and Amanda Sayfried is definitely cute. His eyes pop at her petite swimsuit-clad body crawling across the sand in the slightly sultry "Lay all your Love on Me" scene, making this song a stand-out fave with him and his best friends, Bridger and Josh (It's ok, Blake, it's not inappropriate). They have no shame in really belting the lyrics on the soundtrack either.
Our Butterfly's favorite is "Take a Chance on Me," and she recently spent an evening jotting down all the words in a notebook while listening to the ipod. You may recall that my children are big Erasure fans so the inclusion of this song sealed the deal for our daughter's affection, but there isn't really a song here she doesn't like.
Padawan requests the "Money money money" song, and Dutch Baby, who's been nicknamed "Honny" by her best little friend, loves the beginning "Honey Honey" scene and is sure it's all about her. I can't pinpoint a favorite, but I pretty much like all the ones that don't include Pierce Brosnan. I can't help but include this video of Pierce's singing, which I realize may turn off completely those who haven't yet seen it. Try it out anyway and stick around for the end: Meryl rips his shirt and exposes his pecs which almost redeems him back to respectability.
In this clip watch for Meryl's look of horror when Pierce starts singing...and then she runs. RUN, Donna, RUN!

So Steve and I saw this in Vegas (we tried to get you to go) and LOVED it! It was a great production. I have seen it on the big screen 3 times, taking mom Scoresby to the sing along. STILL LOVE IT! Got it for Christmas and my girls are totally in love with it and Megan has probably watched it 10 times! So I am there with you sista!
I do agree on the voice of Pierce and his singing lack of abilities-but he is so darn cute! AND Meryl sheesh-she can sing but I too hated her wardrobe!
SO from one SUPER TROOPA to another I DO I DO I DO love Mama Mia
Thank you for the post, these are my feelings exactly. I couldn't get past the horrible singing by Brosnan so it almost ruined the whole movie for me. But you reminded me of all the other great scenes and songs. Overall, it was a great movie. Oh, BTW, I am a HUGE Erasure fan as well. Jeff has been to an Erasure concert - that's how I knew he was supposed to be my husband!
I totally agree with you on Pierce Bronson! He can't sing! At all! I liked the movie overall, but I loved Hairspray so much more! I've always loved ABBA.
Jenna,
You crack me up!! I too have the same feelings, especially about Pierce's vocals - BUT it didn't stop me from purchasing the DVD.
Yikes. Poor Pierce. Does he not have any friends to tell him the truth BEFORE he signed on?
It doesn't take much with musicals to impress me. I'll have to watch it sometime when Derrick's out of town (to avoid his mockery).
Another really bad one (not for the kiddies, Across the Universe. Check it out.
Ah...crap. I can't get over Bronson's voice, and no, Meryl can't be amazing in EVERYTHING. It was quite painful for me in fact.
I haven't seen this yet but am dying to and am positive I will love it along with my little Baily Bug. We share a love for Hairspray and belting out the tunes and I'm excited to add this one to our mix. And Erasure- yeah they pretty much rock my socks off! Hope you're doing well!
I can't believe I actually watched more than 10 seconds of that clip! I pray to never see anything with either Pierce singing or meryl streep doing anything.
Blake- My parents tried to make me watch that movie over Christmas. I made it throught the first 5 minutes and had to say " yeah, no more". I'm sorry but James Bond does not sing. You are in good company.
Brandon

Please don't ever mention that movie again...
