Working with the youth at church has made it more apparent to me than ever that I'm getting old. Which shouldn't surprise me, since most of them we
re getting conceived while I was picking my college major. On the drive to a youth meeting a few weeks ago "Total Eclipse of the Heart" came on the radio. A timeless and passionate song, surely the 16-year-old in my car would REALLY like this song if she listened as I belted the lyrics. After all, tattoo-ed beauty Carly Smithson did sing it on American Idol last season in a performance that Simon likely described as "relevant" (as it is his favorite word, along with "indulgent.") But all I got from my performance was turnaround, bright-stink-eyes. At an Ugly Sweater Party with the same group of girls last fall, one of the girls came in a red, cable-knit turtleneck sweater she got from her mom's closet. The other girls giggled. Oh how funny our mom's old clothes are! In my closet hangs one just like it, only in blue, as shown here...except that mine is the Target version.
I don't wear it to mutual anymore.

I had no idea you were so funny! Now I know why I enjoy your kids so much in primary...
Hopefully the sweater that hangs in your closet is not a man's sweater as shown here. No wonder you are scared that they'll snicker.
I thought cable knit sweaters were rad. They bring out the fisherman in me, and I do not even like fish.
In my ward, my girls are not into clothes yet, and those who are, forgive me.
Fashion forgiveness, isn't that what the Gospel is all about? I love the Gospel.
I knew if anybody picked up on it being a man's sweater it would be you, Anna. No mine is a woman's sweater, but it's not much more feminine. Those silly 90s.
Maybe it was your singing, not the song that was the problem:).
I think the sweater is HOT!
I prefer not to think about when my young women were conceived. Ever since I found out that one of them was actually named after the place of conception. Gross.
I must getting old too because I think the sweater is cute.
Kids these days. Cable knit is timeless fashion. Pull out some old 80's white-washed jeans with intentional rips in the knees and pegged bottoms (paired gi-normous elephant hi-tops). That will really give them a run for their money.
Im with the kids, lose the sweater! Actually, I want to see it in an outfit on you first and then I'll make up my ultra fashion conscience mind. haha BUT- do keep in mind- the kids to pay attention to are not the teenage version but the young adult version- those are the ones who have some cool ideas about fashion. The stinky teeny boppers are generally just a bunch of copy cats..who can forget our entire school full of blue denim shirts. I felt like such a loser because I couldn't afford to buy one :(
