Hands-off Policy

Registration for middle school? How can my baby be old enough for middle school? For electives and lockers and punks and gangbangers and popularity complexes and friends with cell phones and ipods (wait, he already has that) and going with and going out and breaking up and breaking out.

His birthday is in July. I should have waited another year to enroll him in kindergarten to delay this inevitable just a titch.

But it's too late to change that now. Gotta face it: he's going to middle school in the fall. As we entered the campus for registration and self-guided tours, I had this most incredible parental urge to hold his hand. It was all I could do to just walk next to him and not touch him. Of course a sixth-grade boy doesn't need his hand held, but that doesn't mean a mom of a sixth-grader doesn't have the need to do it.

This is uncharted territory for both of us. How do I become a mom of a kid that doesn't need his hand held anymore?

Isn't it a challenge seeing your kids grow up? I know it is for us. Connor is so cute, he's do great. He also seems mature, that will make a difference.

BTW, I've got something for you all done. So when do you want to hang out, so we can hang out and I can give it to you. (It's a bit heavy to mail and breakable.)

I totally remember 6th grade. I had my first boyfriend. I can't believe Con's going to MIDDLE SCHOOL!! If he won't hold your hand, I hope he will still give me a hug!

Oooohhhh, I'm so sorry! Luckily, Zac gets to stay in elementary for 6th grade. As it should be.

Good thing you've got such a great kid!

I am worried about middle school and I only have a 2-year-old.

I do not envy you.

But, look at that boy. He will shine.

Sheesh, how old ARE you?

Okay, that is just weird. He is entering the scary years so you have every right to be nervous. Hold his hand when he gets home and smother him with kisses. I think he's still young enough to really love it if it's not in front of his friends.

What a wonderful blog. It made a little tear fall. When did my oldest grandchild get to be a sixth grader. Am I smarter than a 6th grader? I'm afraid not ....tell Conner that I love him and that he is so handsome. Love, Grandma Shirley

Wow. 6th grade is still in the Elem. school here. I'm going to hate 7th grade for sure. Conn will do great. He's too cute not to.
